How accurate were the COVID-19 rapid tests sold in Australia?

Australians have dutifully shoved swabs up their noses for over two years, in general complying with the bedrock of COVID-19 testing, the rapid antigen home test.
One of the big questions all have asked is about their accuracy given the speed at which they were introduced and the truly monumental scale of their use.
A review of TGA-approved RATs suggests their wonders may have been overstated, finding that there were “substantial” differences in diagnostic accuracy reported by manufacturers and their real-world performance.
University of Sydney researchers say the independently-verified sensitivity of eight specific RATs — out of dozens approved since 2021 — were up to 88% lower than manufacturer-reported estimates.
