Hundreds of COVID-19 treatment trials underway

From vaccines to antimalarials and physiotherapy, here's a summary of the on-going research

Some 344 studies are investigating vaccines and treatments for COVID-19, with most (85%) registered in China.

Doctors from the Imperial College in London, UK, are providing some insight into the current state of play, with research in Trends in Pharmacological Sciences:

A modified mRNA vaccine developed by Moderna, Inc and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases was rushed from pre-clinical development to human testing in just 42 days, raising safety concerns among some experienced virologists.

But one randomised open-label study involving 199 patients with COVID-19 found no significant benefit in terms of mortality or viral load.
