‘I can’t work because the RACGP took too long to submit my Medicare paperwork’

Doctors starting the RACGP’s Practice Experience Program say they are unable to claim Medicare rebates because the college is taking too long to process their provider number applications.
Dr Lana Ramazan-Yousif was planning to start work in the coastal Queensland town of Yeppoon when she entered the fellowship pathway on 1 April.
But because of the paperwork delays, the IMG has been warned not to expect a provider number until the end of the month.
“It’s frustrating because I’m not going to be able to work or earn any income in that time,” she said.
