‘I could operate tomorrow’: Dr Charlie Teo says he’s secured an Australian supervisor

A ‘good colleague’ has offered to step up, according to the neurosurgeon — and now all he needs is a hospital.

Dr Charlie Teo says he is one step away from once again carrying out brain surgeries in Australia after a neurosurgeon agreed to supervise him.

He says all he needs is a hospital to grant him privileges and he will be back in business.

Under conditions placed on his registration last July, a supervising neurosurgeon with at least 15 years’ experience in the specialty must give approval before Dr Teo can operate on recurrent intracranial malignancies or brainstem tumours.

Similar conditions placed on his registration pending the hearing meant he has not operated on these tumours in Australia since 2021 because he’s been unable to find a surgeon willing to supervise him.
