‘I don’t want to be the last person that looks in your frightened eyes’
A doctor has made an emotional plea for widespread public masking by recreating the final conscious moments of many COVID-19 patients in a video.
“Please listen as this is dire. I don’t want to be the last person that looks in your frightened eyes,” Dr Kenneth Remy, an intensivist of Missouri, US, writes in a tweet to accompany his video that simulates the moments before a patient is intubated.
Dr Remy, a critical care specialist at Washington University Medical Centre in St Louis, starts his video by pulling a camera in and out to mimic how it would feel to struggle to breathe 40 times a minute.
“I hope that the last moments of your life don’t look like this,” Dr Remy says on the video, holding a laryngoscope.
