‘I knew I was in trouble when I saw the monitor,’ says doctor who nearly died of sepsis

Dr Alex George now believes if he had slept his symptoms off, as planned, he wouldn’t be around today.

“It felt like a bit of flu starting. And all of a sudden things took a huge turn.

“Had I gone to bed that evening and gone to sleep [instead of going to hospital] I probably wouldn’t have been there the next day.”

Dr Alex George is describing his experience of going into septic shock, outlining the speed at which the infection took hold, from “feeling off” at lunchtime to almost collapsing on a street just hours later.

Once in ED, the UK doctor said he “knew he was in trouble” when he saw his systolic blood pressure was 85 even after after a quick litre of IV fluids.
