‘I knew there was 34cm of water in the practice because of the height chart’: GPs vs Cyclone Alfred

Hervey Bay, in Queensland, was hit by almost 300mm of rain in just six hours.

Doctors thought on Saturday that Cyclone Alfred had spared the GP practices of Hervey Bay, north of Brisbane.

But in Sunday’s early hours, everything changed.

Instead of the 25mm that was forecast, almost 300mm fell in six hours.

“We have security cameras at the practice and I watched the water rise on my phone,” says GP practice owner Dr Phil Thorp.
