‘I’d be better off financially as a full-time GP’: Why Dr Melanie Cheng is still writing novels

She says each job feeds the other.

The happiest doctors Dr Melanie Cheng ever met were part of a now-defunct group called The Creative Doctors Network.

“Some would share their photography, others their short films or music, and doctors like me would share their writing,” the Melbourne GP tells AusDoc.

“The main thing I took away from that session was how happy they were.

“It was in stark contrast to many of the consultants that I trained under at the tertiary public hospitals, and even many of the GPs that I’d been placed with in my later rotations.”
