‘If we don’t do it, someone else will’: RACGP president calls on GPs to support patient enrolment

Pharmacists and nurse practitioners will have more leverage to take on core GP roles if the MyMedicare patient enrolment scheme fails, the RACGP president says.
At the WONCA World Conference 2023 last week, Dr Nicole Higgins described patient enrolment as a way of “leading patients to GPs”.
The MyMedicare enrolment scheme began on 1 October, with almost 4000 GP practices registered and 70,000 patients enrolled in the first 15 days.
From Wednesday, these patients will benefit from Medicare rebates for longer telephone consultations and, eventually, block-funding for aged care patients and so-called hospital frequent flyers.
