‘I’m sitting inside this cage’: Doctor interrogated by police over rum theft speaks to AusDoc 

The rehabilitation specialist is free to speak out after police issued an apology 30 months after his ordeal began

The doctor falsely accused of stealing a bottle of rum says Victoria Police had multiple opportunities to end his ordeal early if they had been less heavy-handed.  

Dr Prasannan Ponganamparambile was labelled the main suspect in the theft on a police-run Facebook page in 2020.

He appeared in a grainy CCTV photograph holding the bottle at Dan Murphy’s. 

A friend’s wife alerted the Melbourne rehabilitation specialist to the post, which by that time was already attracting “derogatory comments with racial undertones”, he told Australian Doctor
