IMG sacked over AHPRA paperwork drama wins first round of unfair dismissal case
An IMG accused of fraud and threatened with referral to “law enforcement” by his employer after attempting to resolve an AHPRA paperwork delay has won the first round of his unfair dismissal case.
In November 2023, the GP and emergency doctor was offered a two-year contract as a resident medical officer at Launceston General Hospital (LGH), subject to approval by the Medical Board of Australia.
Five months later, AHPRA approved the IMG to work at the hospital but said he first needed to provide a signed progression plan and supervision agreement from his new employer.
After repeatedly emailing the hospital’s administrative staff and senior management to no avail, the IMG prepared the progression plan himself using a template from a previous employer and copied and pasted the LGH logo onto the document.
