Infectious disease professor vs AI chatbot in grand rounds showdown — who wins?

AI and human learning were neck and neck before a winner finally emerged, during an unusual University of Alabama grand rounds.

Find out what finally brought machine learning unstuck, when an infectious diseases professor entered a “diagnostic showdown” against ChatGPT.

Professor Martin Rodriguez, head of the University of Alabama’s infectious disease division, (willingly) pitted himself against the AI to diagnose a patient during grand rounds.

His colleague, Dr Stefan Kertesz, took to X (formerly Twitter) with a play-by-play of the diagnostic process that gained over 800,000 views and 2000 likes.

“I am scared here because I don’t want AI to win,” Dr Kertesz wrote as the showdown began.
