AHPRA’s operations, including support offered to doctors under investigation, will come under the microscope in a federal parliamentary inquiry to report by the end of the year. 

The timeliness of investigations into notifications, including delays in assessment and decision-making, are also in the spotlight, in the Senate Community Affairs References Committee inquiry.

Appeal processes and the management of professional differences between AHPRA, the Medical Board of Australia and health doctors during investigations, are also included in the scope of the review.

In addition, the committee will address current standards of registration, overseas registration requirements and the suitability of arrangements for supervised practice.
