Insulin pump no better than injections in kids

Continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion provides no benefit over multiple daily injection regimens in children and young people newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, UK researchers report.
Although insulin pumps have been widely adopted, there is little evidence of their superiority compared with daily injections.
In this study, the authors compared outcomes after a year of treatment among 294 children newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and randomised to either a pump or multiple injections.
At 12 months, the differences in HbA1c — the primary outcome — between the treatments were small and unimportant, according to the study in the BMJ.
