After four years as an MP and four decades of cannabis use, David Ettershank knows something about drugs and drug policy.
Representing the Legalise Cannabis Party in Victoria, Mr Ettershank has watched the medicinal cannabis prescribing boom upend the illicit market, undercutting so-called “bikie weed” on price.
It has also overhauled the debate on legal recreational cannabis beyond “the stereotype of old hippies smoking joints”, he tells AusDoc.
“Everywhere I go, people say, ‘My mum is a cannabis consumer now, or my grandmother, or my best mate.’”
