Is Professor Michael Kidd contradicting the national expert taskforce on prescribing molnupiravir?

This week a media storm burst after one of Australia’s top health officials issued a statement on the COVID-19 antiviral molnupiravir.
The official turned out to be former RACGP president Professor Michael Kidd, who is without question one of the country’s leading GPs.
The Australian declared the acting Chief Medical Officer’s article, published on the Department of Health website, was contradicting the nation’s top advisers who had just warned doctors to avoid routinely prescribing the drug because of doubts about its efficacy.
‘Top advisers’ was a reference to the National Clinical Evidence Taskforce. Made up 35 organisations, including representatives from all the medical colleges, the taskforce’s declaration was big news.
