Is the AMA facing civil war? States respond to membership fee fight

Last Thursday, at around 8pm, the federal AMA sent an email telling WA members they were no longer part of the national organisation.
These doctors immediately lost access to federal representation in Canberra and their ability to join federal committees, along with their logins to the AMA Fees List and the Medical Journal of Australia.
The reason? The AMA WA was not handing over around $1 million in membership fees it had collected to the federal AMA.
AMA WA hit back later that night, saying the amount of money it had to provide the federal AMA was unfair, not “reasonable value” and disproportionate to the number of doctors in WA.
