Million-dollar doc: Is this the most lucrative GP job in Australia?

Quairading Shire Council is offering a package of up to $1 million to entice a new GP to town.
Peter Smith, Quairading Shire president.

A small shire in WA’s Wheatbelt region may have broken records by offering prospective GPs almost $1 million a year in pay and benefits.

Quairading shire is a two-hour drive from Perth, with roughly 1000 residents spread across 2000 square kilometres.

Its current GP will leave in March when their contract runs out.

The shire’s council has not messed around in its bid to secure a replacement.
