‘It eats away at you’: Mount Gambier’s GP crisis
A bad day for GP practice manager Jessica Bilal involves 15 counts of patients abusing her staff.
GPs across Mount Gambier, SA’s second biggest city, were already closing their books when the local urgent care clinic operator went into liquidation this year.
The clinic’s closure placed heavier pressure back on GP practices, including the Village Medical Centre where Ms Bilal works.
“A lot of abuse is over the phone because people will do phone enquiries, but often, because the phones are busy, people will come into the clinic physically,” Ms Bilal told AusDoc.
