It seems to be working: Top doctor with glioblastoma gives update on his experimental treatment

The melanoma expert is up for an Australian of the Year award.
Professor Richard Scolyer.

Update: Professor Richard Scolyer and Professor Georgina Long were named Australians of the Year on January 26.

Professor Richard Scolyer has spoken about the results of his latest scan following his diagnosis with a grade 4 isocitrate dehydrogenase-wildtype glioblastoma last year.

The co-medical director of Melanoma Institute Australia believed he had only months to live when he was told of the diagnosis following a sudden, unexplained seizure during a trip to Poland.

But after conversations with his colleagues, he decided to become a human guinea pig, experimenting with the immunology treatments which he had seen revolutionise the treatment of melanoma in the last 20 years.
