‘It’s a bit intimidating’: GP named Father of the Year

Dr Arne Rubinstein says his clinical days are over but he is still doctoring in his preventive work.

Former emergency doctor and GP Dr Arne Rubinstein has been named Australian Father of the Year for his work in fostering relationships, resilience and improved mental health for young people.

Over the last thirty years, the father of two adult sons has developed programs supporting boys, girls and their families to navigate the transition to adulthood.

Dr Rubinstein described the award, announced last week by The Fathering Project, as an “incredible honour”.

“It is also a little intimidating. No parent is perfect — especially me — and I think we are all just learning as we go,” he said.
