PBS lists first new endometriosis treatment in 30 years

Progestogen drug Visanne (dienogest 2mg) has been listed on the PBS for endometriosis, cutting the monthly cost from around $70 to $31.60 for non-concessional patients.
As the first new PBS listing for endometriosis since nafarelin (Synarel) in 1994, the move was “life-changing” for patients, said Melbourne GP Associate Professor Magdalena Simonis.
“It’s also going to be life-changing for GPs,” Professor Simonis told AusDoc.
“We’re going to be able to help a lot more of our patients and take the load off the hospital system by cutting down laparoscopies.”
