‘It’s ignorance not medical misogyny’: Leading oncologist on whether doctors really are letting down women
As Sydney oncologist Associate Professor Nicholas Wilcken read the latest media reporting on ‘medical misogyny’, the familiar bristling over a term he considers “deeply offensive” took hold.
This time he was inspired to pen a response.
The report in question was a four-part series in Nine Newspapers which kicked off with the headline ‘These mistakes cost lives’: The medical bias that affects half of Australia’ under the banner of medical misogyny.
It detailed how women’s pains and symptoms had been understudied and often dismissed, resulting in poorer care with potentially fatal results.
