Junior doctor reprimanded for accessing medical records of colleague

The doctor was reprimanded, but the tribunal said a suspension was unjustified as he had already been suspended under emergency powers for 14 months.

A junior doctor has been sanctioned for accessing the medical records of a female colleague after she asked him not to contact her.

The ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal was told that the two had met in 2021, just before starting together at what was then Calvary Public Hospital, now North Canberra Hospital.

After they had coffee “as friends”, the male doctor sent a message: “I’m pretty attracted to you and haven’t connected so well with someone in a long time, so that’s new for me hahah.”

In March that year, he was assaulted after leaving a bar where the female doctor had been and messaged her in the aftermath.
