Keep the emergency telehealth MBS items, say Australian Greens

The Medicare telehealth items introduced to deal with the COVID-19 crisis should be kept on permanently, say the Australian Greens.

Unrestricted funding for phone and video consults were added as an emergency COVID-19 measure in March to ensure patients continued to access medical care.

Since then more than 14 million telehealth consults have been claimed.

But with the items due to expire on 30 September, there have been growing calls for long-term funding of telehealth in some form.
