KFP and AKT will stay paper based ‘for the foreseeable future’

The risks of exam software failing are too high, says RACGP CEO Paul Wappett.

The RACGP is sticking with pens and paper for two of its fellowship exams, the Key Feature Problem and Applied Knowledge Test, having decided computer-based tests are too risky.

After a remote exam failed disastrously in 2020, the RACGP made another attempt at a computerised Key Feature Problem (KFP) earlier this year.

A computer-based Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) went ahead with no issues, but the KFP was switched back to pen-and-paper format with only 10 days’ notice, after the software failed a final round of testing.

With the next round of exams scheduled for July, RACGP CEO Paul Wappett said the college had decided both KFP and AKT would stay on paper “for the foreseeable future”.
