‘On a knife’s edge’: GPs battle their own workforce shortages due to COVID-19

With Australia facing record numbers of COVID-19 cases, GP practices say they are cracking under the pressure to care for patients and administer vaccines.
Dr Maria Boulton has lost three doctors to isolation and half her reception staff in the past fortnight at her practice in Brisbane.
“We had a doctor who woke up with a scratchy throat last week; she was completely well the following day but didn’t get her PCR result for six days,” she said.
“She found out she was negative on Saturday after spending the week isolating at home.”
