A comprehensive review has found that taking paracetamol during pregnancy does not increase the risk of autism or ADHD — adding to the growing body of research refuting claims made by the Trump administration.
Last year, US President Donald Trump promoted unproven links between the painkiller and autism, telling pregnant women: “Don’t take Tylenol. There’s no downside. Don’t take it.
“You’ll be uncomfortable. It won’t be as easy, maybe, but don’t take it. If you’re pregnant, don’t take Tylenol.”
The doctor who led the research review, published on Friday in The Lancet Obstetrics, Gynaecology and Women’s Health, said: “It remains … the first line of treatment that we would recommend if the pregnant woman has pain or fever.”
