Junior doctors have claimed victory in a class action on unpaid overtime, which lawyers are calling a landmark case for Australia.

Two years after the case began, the Federal Court of Australia handed down its judgement on Friday, finding that Peninsula Health in Victoria contravened the Fair Work Act.

Justice Mordecai Bromberg found that the lead plaintiff, Dr Gaby Bolton, was owed just over $8000 in unpaid overtime from four rotations between 2019 and 2021.

It has opened the door for an estimated 1500 doctors directly involved in the class action.
