One of Australia’s most respected epidemiologists, Professor Mary-Louise McLaws, has revealed she has been diagnosed with a brain tumour.

Professor McLaws, who has become a regular COVID-19 media commentator since the pandemic began, made the announcement on Twitter over the weekend.

Doctors from around the world were among the thousands offering her support, gratitude and well wishes, thanking her for her work in providing accurate information and commentary to the public.

Professor McLaws said she would be taking a month’s leave from her roles at Sydney’s UNSW and the WHO, where she works as an adviser on infection prevention and control response to COVID-19.
