It was a “no brainer” to make chief health officer, Dr Jeanette Young, the state’s next governor, says Queensland’s premier.

Dr Young will take up the new role on 1 November to give her more time to continue rolling out the COVID-19 vaccination program.

Dr Young’s popularity, and her steady hand during the pandemic, makes her a perfect candidate even though the health crisis is not over, say Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and Minister for Health Yvette D’Ath.

“People across Queensland have stopped me and have said to me Dr Young is going to be our governor. That’s exactly what’s going to happen,” the premier told reporters on Monday.
