A downside to Dr Toby Gardner’s love of music festivals is the multiple medical emergencies he encounters during his supposed leisure time.

The RACGP Tasmania faculty chair and electronic music fanatic remembers attending Splendour in the Grass in NSW in 2016 — Flume was the Australian headliner — when the person in front of him collapsed in a seizure.

“I immediately went into emergency medicine mode, made sure his airway was okay, and then I started talking to his girlfriend about what he’d consumed,” Dr Gardner told AusDoc.

“It turned out to be several different things, potentially ketamine, MDMA and some GHB.
