Leprosy in Australia: a rare case study

It's uncommon but worth considering in vulnerable patients, doctors report

Sydney doctors have described a rare case of leprosy in a diagnosis they hope will serve as a reminder to remain vigilant of its symptoms, especially in travellers from endemic areas.

The 21-year-old male patient, who had immigrated from Nepal four years previously, was referred to a dermatologist with a polymorphic eruption of widespread macules, plaques, papules and nodules.

He reportedly had the rashes for 12 months, but it was the first time he had sought help as they were asymptomatic.

There was a history of nasal stuffiness, pedal oedema and malaise.
