Liberal Party selects doctor with ‘dangerous anti-vax views’ as candidate for looming election

Liberal Party bosses have defended their decision to select a doctor accused of “misleading and dangerous” COVID-19 anti-vaccination views as a candidate for the Tasmanian state election.
Dr Julie Sladden, who refused COVID-19 vaccinations during the pandemic claiming they were unnecessary, potentially harmful and did not prevent transmission, was among 35 Liberal candidates announced on Tuesday.
AMA Tasmania has slammed the decision, saying it is alarmed about the message that it sends to the wider community.
“It is untenable for any government trying to urge Tasmanians to follow the best clinical advice and vaccinate, to have one of its own undermining that message,” said state vice-president Dr Annette Barratt.
