Liquidated urgent care clinic finally reopens in hands of new GP provider
The clinic’s first operator, Paion Medical, entered liquidation in early 2025.
An urgent care clinic that closed its doors after the operator entered liquidation has finally reopened in the hands of a local GP practice.
One of the Federal Government’s 137 planned urgent care clinics, the Mount Gambier clinic in SA’s second-largest city, opened in November 2023 amid a GP shortage that had seen local practices repeatedly subject to abuse from patients.
However, provider Paion Medical was ordered into liquidation in early 2025 and eventually sold to former staff for very little money.
After a competitive tender, the Federal Government offered a three-year contract to Hawkins Medical Clinic — Mount Gambier’s largest GP provider — in October 2025.
