Little-used aged care phone items deleted from MBS

GPs can no longer complete mental health plans for aged care residents through phone-based consults

Medicare mental health treatment plans can no longer be completed by phone for aged care residents, after more items were deleted from the MBS.

It means GPs will only be able to complete the plans using existing items for videoconferencing and face-to-face consults, the Federal Department of Health has confirmed.

Items 93408–93411, covering GPs phone consults in aged care, were originally unveiled last December in response to the Royal Commission Into Aged Care Quality And Safety.

As of the end of June, the items had been claimed just 126 times in total.
