Regular screening of patients with chronic hepatitis B from at-risk ethnicities will be a key plank of the first Australian advice on screening and managing patients with hepatocellular carcinoma.

International guidelines recommend six-monthly ultrasounds for all patients with cirrhosis, plus Asian men over 40, Asian women over 50 and African patients over 20 if chronic hepatitis B is present.
