Doctors have welcomed the suspension of a controversial $259 million clinical record system they had warned was dangerous to patients.

Late last year the NT Government continued its rollout of Acacia, a patient clinical record and administration system that was meant to replace multiple legacy programs.

It was introduced to Palmerston Regional Hospital and Royal Darwin Hospital EDs in November following launches at Katherine Hospital and Gove District Hospital.

But ED doctors complained the system was time-consuming, made it difficult to find patient data and frequently locked them out of patient records.Â
