A man who was infected with COVID-19 for 411 days has finally been cured, after genetic testing was used to guide monoclonal antibody treatment tailored to a virus variant.

UK doctors report the patient, now aged 59, first tested positive with an early variant of SARS-CoV-2 in December 2020.

While his symptoms resolved, he was unable to clear the infection due to immunocompromise following a kidney transplant. He continued to test positive during routine hospital visits until January this year.

By this point, he had received three doses of COVID-19 vaccine.
