Mass mail-out will implore GPs to stop writing 60-day scripts

GPs can expect letters imploring them not to write 60-day scripts to protect patients’ “financial best interest” and to preserve access to Webster packs and blood pressure tests in pharmacies.
The Community and Pharmacy Support Group (CAPS) — which has been posting scripts to Facebook labelled “Rort Alert” — is finalising the wording of a mass letter send-out to GP practices on behalf of its members.
“The letters that will be sent to doctors will be asking them as prescribers to please consider the patient’s financial best interest and clinical status when prescribing double the quantity,” CAPS spokesperson Christine Kelly told AusDoc.
For instance, she said patients would end up paying for blood pressure tests at pharmacies that were previously free.
