When Dr Nicholas O’Ryan discovered that a patient he had seen face to face had been infected with COVID-19, alarm bells started ringing.

It wasn’t the risk to his own health.

It was the hundreds of patients in his town of Canowindra, in rural NSW, booked in for his vaccination clinic at the local RSL hall that weekend, including 130 children.

Under the extensive rules of the MBS, this meant he needed to be on-site to provide supervision of the nurses who would be administering vaccines.
