MBS telehealth existing relationship exemption for patients with COVID-19 gets the chop
Patients with COVID-19 will be restricted to telehealth consultations with their regular practice from 1 July after Medicare scraps their exemption to the existing relationship rules.
MBS Online confirmed this week that the temporary exemption would be allowed to lapse, along with the MBS item 93716 for GP phone consultations to assess patient eligibility for COVID-19 antivirals.
Item 93716 currently pays an 85% rebate of $80.10Â and has been claimed more than 300,000 times since they were introduced in 2022.
The existing relationship exemption for non-directive pregnancy counselling items will also end on 1 July.
