Measles outbreak worst in six years, with at least 37 locally acquired cases

About a third of infected patients were in their 20s, and about a sixth of patients were aged four or younger.

The 2025 measles outbreak is already the worst in six years, with 77 confirmed cases.

Data from April show at least 37 cases were locally acquired, with 16 of these definitively linked to other Australian-acquired cases and seven definitively linked to overseas-acquired cases.

Victoria is hardest hit with 31 confirmed cases, including three more locally acquired cases just this week.

NSW follows with 21 cases, then WA with 19, with most WA cases not linked to travel.
