Medical board attempts to gag pro-euthanasia GP

The Medical Board of Australia has gagged a pro-euthanasia GP, claiming her campaign for assisted-dying reform is undermining confidence in the medical profession.
Dr Alida Lancee has been targeted by the board after being quoted in a series of media articles and appearing on a 60 Minutes show, where she repeated her claims that she administered a lethal injection to one of her patients — Mavis Scott — who at the time was terminally ill with emphysema and suffering intolerable pain not alleviated by morphine.
Dr Lancee has always stressed she had the explicit consent of Ms Scott herself, as well as the woman’s family.
Following a complaint about her public comments, the watchdog has now formally cautioned Dr Lancee saying she has failed to uphold professional standards and accusing her of failing to show “insight” into the consequences of her comments.
