Medical board wrongly used registration renewal to impose conditions on doctor, tribunal finds

A doctor has won a two-year battle to practise again after a tribunal found that the Medical Board of Australia wrongly attempted to impose conditions on him without a hearing when he renewed his registration.
The cosmetic doctor applied for non-practising registration in August 2022 because he planned to move overseas; at the time, he was subject to five patient complaints.
However, he changed his mind, moved to WA and reapplied for general registration, the State Administrative Tribunal of WA heard.
But the board said it would only approve general registration with conditions, including a ban on performing cosmetic procedures unless he held admitting rights at a private hospital.
