Medical board’s 16% fee hike ‘a tax on doctors’: AMA

The AMA has protested a steep hike in registration fees as “effectively a tax on the profession”, calling for more government funding to account for AHPRA’s expanding role.
Fees for doctors are now almost $1000, rising 16% since last year, in part to cover the extra costs of a cosmetic surgery crackdown.
From 9 August, the registration renewal fee for medical practitioners increased to $995, up from $860 for those outside of NSW.
Doctors in NSW will cope a rise to $930, from $898.
