Medical Must-See: Infant’s development held back by twin in her brainÂ
The term ‘baby brain’ is usually a light-hearted reference to the thought fog that can accompany pregnancy and caring for a newborn.
But it also has a more literal meaning, with neurologists in China reporting a rare case of a one-year-old girl who had her twin’s fetus buried in her brain.
The fetus-in-fetu — a malformed monochorionic diamniotic twin — was discovered when the child was assessed for motor delay and an enlarged head circumference.
A head CT revealed hydrocephalus, a compressed brain and an intraventricular mass with a vertebral column, femur and tibia.
