‘Inexcusable’: Medical training of 486 trainee doctors badly affected by bullying, harassment and discrimination

“It’s inexcusable.”
These are the words used by the chair of the Medical Board of Australia last week to describe the fact that 35% of medical trainees experienced or witnessed bullying, harassment, discrimination and/or racism [*] during the previous 12 months.
Dr Anne Tonkin stressed a “critical and urgent” need for action to address what she described as the “ongoing fault line in the culture of medicine”.
The figure should be robust.
