Medicare abuse? Dr Nick Coatsworth says the fix is to put GPs on salaries

Associate Professor Nick Coatsworth is making friends and influencing people again, in a series of media appearances in which he claims doctors are being too precious about accusations of Medicare fraud and misuse.
He says there is a “real threat” to Medicare and it comes from doctors wasting taxpayers’ money on low-value care.
The former deputy chief medical officer says one possible fix that needs to be considered is putting GPs on salaries.
He took to morning television and Twitter to air his views on the medical profession’s reaction to the disputed media allegations that doctors are rorting and misusing Medicare to the tune of $8 billion a year.
