Medicare expands COVID-19 items to cover third vax dose

Medicare will offer rebates of between $24.45 and $49.90 for GPs administering a third dose of COVID-19 vaccine, the same as for a second dose.
It follows a statement by ATAGI a week ago recommending additional shots for about half a million severely immunocompromised patients.
They include those on chemotherapy, high-dose corticosteroids, B-cell-depleting therapies and long-term dialysis.
No new MBS items are being created, but the Department of Health says it has amended those for second doses to allow them to be billed for any subsequent COVID-19 vaccination.
